That is why Gnutella is open source software, meaning they make their software code available to anyone, free of charge. People can use the Gnutella program to create their own P2P networks, something Gnutella encourages. Not everyone agrees in share and share alike, however. In 2007, Gnutella is facing a legal battle with the record industry. The Gnutella vs the recording industry case is expected to come to trial in summer 2007.
